General introduction

As UFH continues to expand and pursue its vision of becoming the standard-setting health system for Asia, the organization has developed a mechanism to develop physicians’ capability and scope of practice in a safe and supportive way. The PDP process encourages medical staff to maintain and improve their skills and experience. This helps to identify and promote career development and learning opportunities for physicians, which can provide them with meaning and job satisfaction, over and above the ‘day-job’.

PDP Process

PDP is a process of facilitated self-review supported by information gathered from the full scope of a doctor’s work. This includes:

  • Looking back at achievements and challenges and lessons learnt, including reviewing the previous year’s personal development plan objectives.

  • Working towards their aspirations, learning needs, and the recording of new personal development plan objectives.

PDP Purpose

To enable doctors to discuss their practice and performance with their appraiser in order to demonstrate that they continue to meet the principles and values of good medical practice.

  • To enable doctors to discuss their practice and performance with their appraiser in order to demonstrate that they continue to meet the principles and values of good medical practice.

  • To enable doctors to enhance the quality of their professional work by planning their professional development.

  • To enable doctors to consider their own needs in planning their professional development. This will be linked to their Continuing Medical Education (CME) – which is fully supported and funded by UFH.

Appraisal allows me to stand back from my work and think about how I can improve what I am doing…
