General introduction

After pregnancy and childbirth, a woman experiences a series of muscular, skeletal, and hormonal changes. Right after childbirth, the new mom goes through rapid changes in hormone level and metabolism, and often faces stomach and pelvic distortion, changed body shape, and pains in the back, hips, heels, and breasts.

UFH has carefully designed a set of individualized recovery plans to help women have a comfortable postpartum recovery period, recover their beauty and confidence, and have a great start to their new role as a mom. The plans will help women move from postpartum confinement (yuezi) to postpartum recovery (PPR).

UFH’s Postpartum Care:
Providing Chinese Women with the Excellent “Postpartum Recovery”

In August of 2018, UFH released the 2018 China White Paper on Postpartum Recovery in Beijing. UFH partnered with Baobaoshu to survey over 11 thousand Chinese women of child-bearing age and analyzed their postpartum recovery needs and behaviors. For the first time, UFH published the UFH Postpartum Recovery Standards, which referenced traditional Chinese postpartum confinement theories to provide a scientific background for Chinese women selecting their postpartum recovery providers.

On April 24, 2019, China Women & Children Health Center Association officially awarded Beijing United Family Hospital the title of Postpartum Training Basecamp. As UFH’s first postpartum care center, the hospital follows strict safety standards, ensures the quality of care, provides comprehensive care for women and infants, and contributes to the development of women and children’s healthcare in China. With the implementation of the Second Child Policy, the number of newborns and older moms in China is increasing. In addition, as Chinese families continue to have a higher standard of living, women’s needs for high quality child-birth services and postpartum care are also rising.

In 2018 alone, more than half of the patients in the hospital were postpartum patients, and their total duration of hospital stay was more than 50% of that of all patients, indicating the high level of trust postpartum patients have for UFH, as well as the rising medical needs of Chinese moms in their postpartum journey. Scientific postpartum care requires both postpartum recovery theories and medical methods, and UFH is dedicated to providing the best and safest prenatal, childbirth, and postpartum medical care of an international level.

How do our patients benefit

Unlike traditional postpartum confinement, postpartum recovery pays attention to issues like rectus abdominis diastasis, pubic symphysis separation, pelvic muscle disorders, post-partum pain, etc. Problems such as postpartum depression, mastitis, weight-gain, scarring, etc., also need support from professionals who are knowledgeable in all areas of postpartum healing, including mental health, nutrition, etc.

UFH is devoted to improving clinical care, especially the care for rectus abdominis diastasis after child-birth.

UFH postpartum care is entering its fifth year. We will continue to provide international-level care in recovery, follow a multidisciplinary recovery service model, and help every mom to live her best life.
